AI waifu chat: what to look for in the writing
Genre voice is the hardest thing to fake and the easiest to test. Put the character in a situation with a bit of tension and see whether the reply stays in character or slides into assistant mode. Apps that get this right let you set an archetype, tsundere, kuudere, genki, and then actually hold it. The ones that do not will be agreeing with everything you say by the third message.
Art consistency matters more than art quality
A single beautiful image proves nothing. What you want is the twentieth image of the same character looking like the first: same eyes, same hair, same outfit unless you asked for a change. Apps built on a general image model drift badly here, and you end up with a gallery of strangers who happen to share a name.
Free anime AI chat and where the limits bite
Text is usually generous and images usually are not, because images are the part that costs the provider money. Expect a small daily allowance of pictures, or a credit balance that also pays for voice. If you are here mainly for the art, read the credit maths before the feature list.
How many characters is enough?
Large premade libraries look impressive and matter less than they seem, because almost everyone settles on one or two characters and stays there. What counts is whether you can build your own, and whether the builder gives you real control over personality rather than three sliders and a portrait.
